Do people still read blogs?
When you research blogs on Google, you'd find a lot of statistics that talk about how important and impactful blogs are up to this day. And these are true. A blog is a core piece of content that makes businesses more professional and credible in their respective industry. No matter what naysayers and doubters say, blogs or any content of the written form will stay.
But no one really directly compares blogging statistics to video statistics. Blogs would fall in comparison because millions of people are reached by videos. Just to give you a picture, there are 1.534 billion Tiktok users and 1 billion of those are active users. On the other hand, YouTube has 2.6 billion monthly active users.
So to tell you the truth, blogs are dying in a gradual manner. There are still creators who prefer to blog but they are slowly losing their reading audience. So many have shifted and are more drawn to video content that they can watch rather than just having a blog in front of them to read with minimal visuals.
This doesn't mean however that there's no more value in blogging. You might not reach a wide audience if you were to make a video but one thing is for sure, you'd reach more of your people, your target audience. They too still prefer to read rather than watch. They get more informed through educational or inspiring articles rather than video content that they even sometimes fall asleep to.
So if you still want to blog, the question shouldn't be if it's a waste of time but rather, what and how you should be blogging?
Before, people used blogs as their public diaries. They would share what's happening to them daily or depending on how often they post. They'd include photos and commentaries but now, since the rise of vlogs, people rarely get drawn to blogs with this kind of content. It's more probably because when they watch a video, they could also see non-verbal cues and understand the message more rather than just reading words with no visual image of the emotions behind them.
So since people don't read blogs with a personal diary tone, the next best thing to do is to make informative articles. Notice we did not say entertain because then again, people watch and listen to videos or music for entertainment. They only read when they're presented with a good story recommended by a friend. Or they read when they have to review for class. Or they read just a page, whenever they can.
But people read when they have a question in mind. They would automatically search in Google for a question that's been troubling them and read through the blogs if they get hooked. Plus, a blog is considered a more professional and credible source rather than just watching a video of someone giving a review. So naturally, when people have a question, all they have to do is go on Google and find the answer to their queries.
People also get directed to blogs after they read a social media post. So make sure that if you're going to blog, you will share your content via a social site.n In this way, you'd be able to make the event a networking one to connect with people.
Another thing to take note of is attention span. Since we only have 3-5 seconds to hook our readers, then the blog post should go straight away to the topic or goal on hand instead of going around the bush. You'd want to target the pain points of your readers so that if they would not close the tab or scroll away during their screen time.
